  • The Lisbon office has experienced a significant growth, with an increase of 65% over the previous year

Andersen Iberia closed 2023 with a 25% increase in turnover in the last year to reach 50.35 million euros. The firm continues its strong growth, which has continued since the appointment of the new management team in 2021 and has achieved three years of exponential growth in which turnover has increased by 123.5%, from €22.5 million to €50.35 million.

Specifically, the firm has experienced considerable growth in all offices, especially significant in those with the greatest capacity for development. Madrid and Valencia, the most important offices such as have increased by around 20%, while the most recently opened offices have increased by high percentages such as Barcelona with 26%, Seville with 51% and Lisbon with 65% more than the previous year. This allows the firm to have a great territorial balance, given that, while Madrid is the flagship of the firm, representing 58% of the total turnover, Valencia has a strong contribution with 23%, and Barcelona, Seville, Malaga and Lisbon contribute 19% of the firm’s result, of which Malaga already accounts for 2% in its first year since the opening of the office.

For their part, all areas have achieved a good performance, with, once again, the traditional practices making a greater contribution to turnover, such as Commercial (representing 26%), Litigation (19%), Tax (18%) or Public (16%), but with great stability in other areas such as Labour, Culture, Real Estate, Economic or Legaltech. In this regard, José Vicente Morote, Managing Partner of Andersen in Iberia, said that “the distribution of turnover between areas shows that we are committed to sustainable growth, in which the weight of the firm is balanced thanks to the commitment to specialisation and the incorporation of various teams who are very sophisticated and with great capabilities “. “This also means that our professionals trust in colleagues who can offer the best service to their clients, boosting cross-selling, which in 2023 exceeded 30%, thus demonstrating the coordination and great trust that exists between the various teams”.

Regarding the evolution of the workforce, the number of professionals, i.e. those who contribute to the generation of business, has grown by 20% to 353 lawyers and economists, of which 74 are partners (69 in Spain and 5 in Portugal). In addition, 91 people make up the central structure, which means a total of 444 people at the end of 2023. On this point, the firm’s Managing Partner emphasised that “not only do we maintain a strong commitment to the professional careers of young people, as a basis for the future of the firm, but we also take care of senior talent, which adds great knowledge and expertise to the practices”. As a result,” he continued, “we have a diverse team, with high professionalism, which combines experience and projection, contributing from different positions in a cohesive and structured way to the project”.

Morote emphasised that “our constant commitment to maximum specialisation and to incorporating and training the best professionals has resulted in this growth and recognition, as well as the inclusion of new teams in the main international directories or access to projects of high economic and social impact, such as our designation as exclusive advisors for the 37th America’s Cup to be held in Barcelona in 2024”.

Regarding the firm’s international growth, Andersen has continued to evolve at a good pace, with the incorporation of new jurisdictions and teams to the project. This has allowed us to significantly increase our international coverage to more than 425 offices in more than 170 countries and a team of more than 15,000 people and more than 2,000 partners.

Finally, Morote explained Andersen’s new roadmap for the next four years, for which he has taken over the management of the firm alone by unanimous decision of the Partners. Specifically, he stressed that “the main objective will be the search for excellence, permanent improvement in quality and maximum specialisation, so all initiatives will be developed along these lines”. To this end,” he said, “we have not only one of the most dynamic and attractive projects in the market at the moment, but also the capacity to continue the expansion process in all our offices, thanks to the significant investment made this year with the expansion or change of facilities in all our offices”.

In particular, he insisted that in the coming years growth will continue in the Madrid office, of course, and also in the offices in Barcelona, Seville, Malaga and Lisbon, which are already progressing at a good pace, and indicated that “territorial coverage would be covered with the forthcoming opening of the Bilbao office, which will allow us to provide service throughout the peninsula and advance in our model of developing capabilities in all offices to be a major player of reference in all cities in which we are present”.
